A Commitment to Excellence
A Welcome from the Program Coordinator...
Welcome to Centura College's Practical Nursing Program! The foundation of our Practical Nursing Program is based on a faculty's shared commitment to excellence in meeting the educational needs of our students as we prepare them for entry level Licensed Practical Nursing Positions. Our fifteen month accelerated program embraces a curriculum that helps our practical nursing students to recognize that each person is a unique, complex, biological, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, and ethnic being. We believe that a practical nursing education provides a knowledge base necessary for clinical practice, promotes participation in the nursing process by providing opportunities for students to perform assessments, to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care, and enables the practical nurse to assist in the maintenance of health and prevention of disease. Upon completion of our program, students are eligible to apply to take the computer-adaptive licensure examination (NCLEX) for practical nurses which is written by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). I look forward to having you as a practical nursing student. |

Hello! I am Nikita Carr and I am the coordinator of the Medical Billing and Coding Program at the Centura Richmond Campus. Medical billers and coders work in a variety of settings. They can work in a physician practice, facility, DME Company, or for an insurance company. They can work in any specialty from pediatrics to cardiology. The possibilities are endless.
The sky is the limit with this program and certification can open the doors for you financially. When you apply yourself to learn as much as you can and become certified, you are investing in yourself and your financial future. Employers are looking for knowledgeable professionals to ensure that they receive the proper reimbursement for the services they provide. A strong financial team is critical to the success of any facility or practice and medical billers and coders are a vital part of that team.
Medical billers and coders are in tuned with their industry. Healthcare is constantly changing and medical billers and coders stay up to date and informed. We are in a unique time in history as far as healthcare is concerned and with the changes that are taking place and the upcoming transition to ICD 10 there is no better time to become a medical billing and coding professional.
Medical billing and coding is constantly changing and on our campus we are committed to making sure that our graduates are prepared to enter this ever changing field. From all of us in the Medical Billing and Coding program, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your success.

Welcome to Centura College and the Massage Therapy program! My name is Chuck Fobes and I am the Lead Instructor of the Massage Therapy program at the Midlothian Campus. Our program's teaching staff at the time of this writing represents nearly 40 years of working in the "real world" as massage therapists in environments as varied as spas, health and fitness centers, eclectic private practices, orthopedic rehabilitation clinics, chiropractic offices, on-site corporate chair venues, sports events, franchise massage therapy clinics, and more.
What is offered in our program is an opportunity to begin a new and rewarding career as a Certified Massage Therapist almost immediately upon completion of a 14 month course of study. Under the tutelage of our staff of dedicated professional and experienced faculty, students will learn to become true professionals themselves. To achieve that goal our curriculum is focused on client-based outcomes of therapy and also meeting the requirements of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and The Virginia Board of Nursing. While many courses are primarily "hands on", such as Deep Tissue Massage, Massage Applications 1, 2, 3, Massage Therapy Clinicals, and Shiatsu, others are mainly lecture/discussion driven, such as Pathology, Business and Ethics, Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, and Massage Physiology and Theory. Still other courses combine material learned in lecture and discussion with palpation (use of hands to evaluate tissue). Some of these classes include Client Assessment, Kinesiology (literally, the study of movement, this course covers the structure and function of bones and joints of the skeletal system), Myology (the structures and function of the muscular system), Introduction to Clinical Treatment, Complementary Modalities (including Aromatherapy, Hydrotherapy and Reflexology). Upon successful completion of the Massage Therapy Program the student will have a much greater understanding and appreciation of the complexity of his/her fellow human beings (i.e. clients), and what is meant by the "mind, body, spirit" connection. With perserverance, focus and dedicated effort, students will also learn a great deal about themselves, gain new confidence and be prepared to enter the working world as Certified Massage Therapists. As Lead Instructor, I welcome the opportunity to help make this happen for YOU.
